McDonald's breaks ground to build new Yigo locationWritten by Donna De Jesus
Guam - At a ground breaking ceremony yesterday on a 44,000-sq. ft. property, president and owner of McDonald’s of Guam and Saipan, Joe Ayuyu, told the people in attendance that he saw a lot of potential in Guam’s economy and hopes to open three or four more McDonald’s restaurants on island in the future, which will also bring more employment opportunities.
"When I looked around on guam, I see probably 3 or 4 more restaurants into the future. So, I’m really into tapping into the economy here, and seeing a lot of potential," Ayuyu said. "I think the people of Guam really deserve the latest of what’s happening in the restaurant world, and I’m more than happy to actually bring it here. This restaurant not only will bring modernization in restaurants in the area, but it will also bring in employment. So, our plan will be to really hire more people for this particular restaurant."
The Yigo restaurant will feature a double-lane drive-thru, 28 parking stalls, and a seating capacity of 52 in the 4,382-sq. ft. building. Ayuyu did not hold back on the technological upgrades — this location will have self-order kiosks, table service, and an automated beverage system.
But what about the McDonald’s that is currently located in the Yigo Mobil Gas Station? Ayuyu says it’s not going anywhere. "That restaurant will continue to open. We’ll just have to see what happens. If it continues to be profitable, no reason why we need to close it," he said.
Once open, the new Yigo McDonald’s will open 60 employment positions. The new restaurant will be located near the entrance to Perez Acres.
