Former Senator George Bamba's son sentenced in drug caseWritten by Janela Carrera
Guam - The son of former senator George Bamba was sentenced in federal court today to three years in prison for smuggling drugs into Guam.
George Bamba Jr. was given a relatively light sentence through a plea agreement. He was initially facing 10 years to life in prison after he was caught in October 2015 picking up a package in the mail that contained nearly 100 grams of methamphetamine.
For his sentencing several letters of support were submitted to Chief Judge Frances Tydingco-Gatewood from family and friends, speaking of Bamba Jr.’s character and begging for leniency.
Although Bamba was charged in 2015, he had previously admitted that he had been smuggling "ice" into Guam since 2012.
